1874: Founding Member of UPU
Türkiye was one of the 22 founding members of the Universal Postal Union, signing the Berne Convention on 9 October 1874. This marked the Turkish Post’s debut on the international stage, driving early modernization and internationalization of its postal services.
1994: Türkiye - UPU Postal Operations Council (POC) Membership
Türkiye has been a member of the UPU Postal Operations Council for 31 consecutive years.
2016: Host of the 26th Universal Postal Congress in Istanbul
Türkiye proudly hosted the 26th Congress, reinforcing its leadership role and becoming the Chair of the UPU CA.
2017-2020: Türkiye Chairs the UPU Council of Administration
During its chairmanship, Türkiye promoted innovation, inclusion, and strategic partnerships across the UPU’s governance structures.
2018: Türkiye Becomes a Global Logistics Powerhouse
Strategically located at the intersection of Europe, Asia, and Africa, Türkiye is now home to one of the world’s most advanced cargo hubs at Istanbul Airport – spanning 1.4 million m² with 200,000 m² of cargo capacity.
2023: Türkiye Selected for UPU’s Global Green Delivery Pilot
Among 25 candidates, Türkiye was selected as one of only three pilot countries in the UPU’s global green delivery initiative. Backed by BTK’s strong regulatory expertise, Türkiye is actively shaping global standards by addressing policy barriers and designing incentives for sustainable logistics.
2023: Active Engagement in European and International Postal Structures
Türkiye continues to hold key leadership roles in international postal bodies, including the presidency of the PUMed Board of Directors, co-chairing the UPU POC Digital Transformation and Innovation Group, serving on the PostEurop Management Board, leading major PostEurop working groups, and acting as Vice-Chair of the UPU ORE Project.
2024: UPU Regional Office in Ankara
A positive response was conveyed by Türkiye regarding the establishment of a UPU sub-regional office in Ankara, and the Host Country Agreement process is currently ongoing. Meanwhile, a Field Expert was temporarily assigned and began work in February 2024.
2025: Host of ERGP’s Flagship Event in Istanbul
On 1 July 2025, Türkiye hosted the ERGP External Workshop in Istanbul, welcoming over 120 participants from more than 40 countries. As co-chair in Sustainability WG and rapporteur in multiple ERGP WG, Türkiye continues to lead and influence the regulatory dialogue across Europe.
